Serena Williams defeated Garbine Muguruza 6–4, 6–4 this past Saturday, winning her sixth Wimbledon title and 21st Grand Slam title. The win puts her just one victory shy of being the first woman to win all four major titles in the same year since Steffi Graf in 1988.
“I can’t think about that. I have to go into New York thinking, listen, I want to win the U.S. Open,” she said. “That’s how I got through this, it wasn’t about winning the Serena Slam, it was about winning Wimbledon.”
Serena is just the third woman ever to win the first three legs of the Grand Slam. With Margaret Court in 1970 and Steffi Graf in 88′. Here’s to hoping Serena gets to join the elusive club.
