Keke Palmer Becomes First African American Cinderella On Broadway


This has been quite an impressive year for 20 year old singer/actress KeKe Palmer. First, the premier of, “Just Keke” on BET, (making her the youngest person in history to launch her own talk show), and now she’s been cast as the main character in a Broadway version of Cinderella.

Keke will be stepping in for the role of “Ella”, Paige Faure, and before her, Carly Rae Jepsen in June. While Keke will become the first black Cinderella on Broadway, she’s not the first black Cinderella. If you remember, ABC release a made for tv movie in 97, that cast Brandy as Cinderella, and Whitney Houston as her fairy godmother.

Sherri Shepherd is set to play the character’s evil stepmother, and Entertainment Weekly reports that NeNe Leakes may be cast as the fairy godmother. Be on the lookout for more as the story unfolds, KeKe Palmer’s performance is due to debut on September 9th, 2014.
