Throwback Thursday: Mariah Carey, “Fantasy”

This week’s installment of throwback thursday, is Mariah Carey’s, “Fantasy”. Fantasy was released as the lead single of the singer’s fifth studio album, Daydream. Using samples from Tom Tom Club’s 1981 song “Genius of Love,” it became the second song in Billboards history, and the first by a female to debut atop the Hot 100 eight consecutive weeks. Aside from being at the top of the chart for eight weeks, the track received some serious play outside the US, becoming a top-five hit in Belgium, Finland, France and the UK.

Mariah made her directorial debut as head of production for the video. After being disappointed with the final cut of many of her previous videos, Carey decided to direct the video herself.

Get ready to dance in your seat.
