Beginning in 2008 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, with the help of the Bruce High Quality Foundation, the Brucennial has become a huge part of art week and the art community at large. In its 6 year span, the show grew and evolved over the year, and included over 400 artists know and unknown. over the years to include over 400 artists. Taking place during art week, the Brucennial’s last showcase offers an all female roster.
We’ve grown this show big enough to command an audience of thousands and thousands of visitors, not to mention media attention,” BHQF wrote in the email blast, which was forwarded to us by a recipient. “So for The Last Brucennial, we will spotlight all women artists. We see The Last Brucennial as a chance to focus on this crucial energy within the wider community. We won’t focus on this aspect of the exhibition in advertising the show as we think it will speak for itself.
By comparison, women make up less than a third of the participants at this year’s Whitney Biennial, which will also be opening on March 7. The Brucennial takes place on March 7, to April 4, 2014 at 837 Washington street, NYC. Check out the show if you’re in the area, and get to know some new artists.
